News Flash! Apostates Rediscover the Bible!

Yes, it is evidently true! They have their own life verse to prove it! They usually quote it something like this: “Judge not lest ye be judged”. Isn’t it interesting that so many people today who revile the Word of God, who despise the Bible and would like nothing better than to relegate the scriptures to the trash heap of history, have rediscovered one passage of scripture?

What also surprises me is the evangelical fervor with which they propagate their interpretation of this one line of scripture. They use this passage, in season, and out of season, to reprove, rebuke and exhort anyone who disagrees with their “lifestyle.” They in fact would put a “rabid fundamentalist “to shame in their denunciation of what they often label “judgmental, legalistic hypocrites.” Whew, excuse me, was I just judged?

Have you ever heard, or should I ask how many times have you heard a statement something like the following, “Who are you to judge me?” This outburst is almost surely followed with a pontification from the authority of the scriptures that they supposedly now take so much stock in, with the inevitable, “judge not lest ye be judged”.

Now don’t misunderstand me. I am all for the scriptures, but I am for ALL the scriptures. There is a big difference. If they really believe one scripture, one verse, one passage, and use it regularly to bolster their point of view, isn’t it reasonable to believe that they would honor and esteem the rest of the Word of God also? There is, of course, more to the Bible than one verse. Is it possible that by expanding their knowledge to some of the over thirty-one thousand other verses in the Bible, that they may become even more enlightened? I hope they understand in their great zeal over six words pulled from the scriptures without reference to any of the other eight hundred thousand words, that they may just possibly have a myopic view of God’s entire Word.

There is another group that loves this verse also. They are those who want to go to heaven when they die, but want to hold on to as much of the world as they can also. Lately, I had some friends of mine attacked because of their stand against “Christian Rock music, or Christian metal, or whatever it is called. They were lambasted with the “judge not lest ye be judged” mantra over and over. They were called names, hateful names, called judgmental, hypocrites, cursed at etc. from supposedly “Christian” lovers of the music which they had exposed.

I’ve got a shocking revelation for some of them. When a regular, ordinary person, hears music that sounds like it is coming from the neighborhood honky-tonk, or from a rock concert or a nightclub, they don’t automatically equate that with church, Jesus Christ and things holy. They equate it with honky-tonks, rock concerts, nightclubs, and unbelievers. Take a poll if you don’t believe me. This is not rocket science folks.

And those places, nightclubs, bars, and rock concerts, are usually equated with drunkenness, adultery, drugs, sexual promiscuity, etc. These things have nothing to do with holiness and the things of God. But, with their newfound appreciation of the scriptures, it makes this point much easier to prove by just using the scriptures which they now so love to quote.

1 Cor 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Sounds like those neighborhood haunts to me. So, being a Christian, why would I want to be associated with something that even sounds like the wicked places where those activities that are condemned by the Word of God are carried on?

The scriptures further tell us that we are to have no fellowship with darkness. Darkness being sin and sinful practices. Is it really possible to take something that originated from the pit, say rock & roll, which is freely admitted and even promoted by its most staunch supporters as being a devilish, flesh satisfying beat, a beat that is familiar even in some voodoo ceremonies, and marrying it to Christ and His holiness?

2 Cor 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

We are not here to infiltrate the world and take on the worlds manners, and music, and way of life, as incognito Christians. However we are commanded to come out of the world and be separate.

2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Continuing with that same ordinary person, in hearing “The Old Rugged Cross” they would undoubtedly equate that with church, the Lord Jesus Christ and things Holy. I hope I’m not telling them something they don’t already know. These things are common knowledge. There is a reason for this distinction, and it comes from the scriptures also.

The Bible tells us to be separate from the wickedness of the world. In other words we are not to be like the world, in the way we act, in the way we think, in the places we frequent etc. Could that also possibly take in the type of music that we listen to? Is it possible that there truly is to be a difference, a distinction in the sounds between the world’s music and sacred music?

Well the fact of the matter is, there is a difference. Just ask any guy or gal on the street. They know the difference. It doesn’t take a theologian, a PHD, or even a Christian to know the difference. In fact it seems that just about everyone knows the difference, except maybe some “Christian artists” and their followers.

Why is it that I am supposed to believe that to reach the world we have to use the worlds music, the world’s beat, a live concert, and add a few words about the “Lord” or “Him”, or “the Spirit” to draw them in? It is said that you need to be like the world to reach the world, but my Bible says,

Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

By the way, something else has been bothering me, and so I will ask our new found lovers of the Word this question. Where in the scriptures do they get their command to draw people to Christ and get them saved by music anyway?

What I keep on seeing is preaching the Word, to get souls saved.

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

1Cor 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Mr 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Now please understand, I don’t hate anyone that doesn’t live according to the Word of God. I don’t hate anyone who lives a wicked lifestyle, in fact I can tell you right now, there is not a person on earth that I hate.

I don’t even dislike you if you listen to that kind of music, or if you don’t even believe the Word of God. I just believe that you are wrong, terribly wrong, and I also believe that it is my responsibility to warn you. What you do with what I have written and the scriptures quoted is between you and God.

I could go on and on concerning this subject but must stop somewhere so in closing let me ask one more thing of you. Please don’t hate me, or call me a hypocrite, or a legalist, or narrow minded or cuss me out because I said something about your sacred cow.

… That would be so judgmental.
